A Barn Tour?  What does that mean?  Well, it’s not your usual tour itinerary.  It’s an unusual look into the agricultural heritage of our area through the “eyes” of a barn. Here at the Appalachian Barn Alliance, we (Board Members and the Barn Historian who is your tour guide) are passionate about all that we can learn from these iconic structures. So, we work each year to choose one of those farmsteads that has some really interesting barns from a historically significant view.  And, this year, we found an absolute jewel!  The owners have graciously agreed to allow our group of 50 plus people to come onto their property for the tour. Once we have that showcase barn selected, we work with others near it to let them know that a bus will be stopping on their road and talking about their barns.  And, voila!, we have a “Barn Tour” which consists of 45 minutes up-close-and-personal look at the barns on the showcase property plus the rest of the time driving the beautiful country roads learning about the history of the barns and the area—all of this in a comfortable 50-passenger air-conditioned bus.
